LYME DISEASE & BIOFILM
Since Lyme disease presents itself differently in each person, most healthcare practitioners can’t agree on a specific treatment protocol. It can be treated with antibiotics, but there are other issues to consider during treatment like impaired immunity, inflammation, neurological damage, heavy metal body burden and co-infections. The most efficient treatment plan is an integrative holistic approach that considers these circumstances.
Many people spend years looking for answers to troubling symptoms caused by Lyme Disease that never fully resolve, no matter what. One critical factor in this complex equation has recently been brought to light: the presence of something called biofilm. Researchers and innovative health practitioners have discovered that one of the keys to treating chronic infections involves attacking the biofilm and breaking apart the strong, lattice structure adhering to cell surfaces.
Addressing the biofilm issue allows for the eradication of many infections that arise due to the failure of pharmaceutical treatments to penetrate the biofilm matrix. Many aberrant organisms are therefore able to survive treatment and become more resistant to medications. Repeated courses of treatment then fail to resolve the infection and it becomes stubbornly chronic.
MODIFIED CITRUS PECTIN
Several pre-clinical and clinical studies have demonstrated that this holistic approach can be achieved through the administration of the natural compound, Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP). MCP is a robust molecule derived from the pith of citrus fruit. A proprietary process enzymatically modifies the fibers to a specific molecular weight and structure that allows absorption into the circulation. MCP works as a natural blocker of galectin-3 (Gal-3), which is a “rogue protein” and active biomarker that serves as an indicator of disease development.
Years ago, a handful of integrative doctors began using MCP to fight cancer but now it is being used as an essential component in Lyme Disease treatment protocols. One powerful study showed that MCP activates immune cells and increases their functionality in both the innate and adaptive (trained) immune response. MCP’s benefits can be used to target degenerative conditions like Lyme disease while improving quality of life. In addition, safe heavy metal detoxifiers are used to “mop up” the byproducts of biofilm breakup and microbial “die off.” These include Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) and sodium alginates, which also help to move toxins out of the intestines, reduce inflammation, help heal the digestive lining and support normal immune function. Heavy metal toxicity is often linked to biofilm formation, bacteria overgrowth and chronic inflammation, which makes MCP another key element in the success of these protocols.
